Traveling with Atlas Obscura amid COVID-19 How We’re Adapting Our Trips Destination Requirements (via Embassy Pages)
Trip Overview
Overview

Devour colorful cuisine and world-class wine on a journey from the picturesque streets of Barcelona to the majestic monasteries of Montsant. You’ll explore Roman ruins, Gothic cathedrals, and UNESCO-designated monasteries, but the most memorable structure you see might be the one made of people: the acrobatic Castellers (human towers). Between tapas bars, vineyards, and paella feasts, you’ll sample a little bit of everything that grows between Catalonia’s idyllic mar i muntanya (sea and mountains).

Gastro Obscura Trips: inspiring wonder and curiosity about the world through food and drink.

Highlights
  • Discover wine regions and vintners on the cutting edge of natural winemaking
  • Witness the remarkable Human Towers of Vilafranca
  • Enjoy family feasts and taste the famous small plates of Catalan cuisine
  • Immerse yourself in the wacky and wonderful world of Antoní Gaudi
  • Go inside a perfectly preserved modernist apartment and savor an exclusive, home-cooked meal

Traveling Solo?

You’re in good company. Solo travelers typically make up about half of our small groups. With curiosity at the center of our experiences, there’s a natural camaraderie that develops over the course of a trip. We have two options for you:

Shared Room (subject to the latest Covid-19 guidelines): You’ll be matched with another solo traveler of the same gender.

Private Room: Have your own room, subject to availability, for a supplemental cost of $1290. After booking your trip, please request a private room when you fill out your traveler information form and we’ll add the option to your booking and final balance.

Activity Level

Travelers should be comfortable staying on their feet for long stretches at a time and walking up to four miles over the course of a day. We'll be out and about most of each day, with time to rest at lunch and dinner, both of which take place on the later side in Spain.

Arrival & Departure

You should plan to arrive in Barcelona by 3 p.m. on Day 1 and make your way to the group hotel near Plaça Catalunya. Meet your host at 6 p.m. in the hotel lobby to get things started with a welcome vermouth at a fantastic local wine shop near the hotel. You are free to depart at the conclusion of the trip anytime on Day 9.

*Airport transfers are only provided if arriving & departing on the trip dates, or if pre/post arrangements have been made through Atlas Obscura.
